Wall / skeleton /excavation
For this project we explored grids through different shapes, walls, skeleton, and excavation.
The first grid exploration was done on white card stock with black shapes to show contrast on grids and play with the 9 design principles. After the exploration we moved onto chip board using our most successful grids from the card stock pieces.
The first chip board study that was conducted was building walls. It allowed me to focus on my craft and gave me a new understanding on how someone would move through a piece if it was life size.
The next study conducted was skeleton. For this study it wasn't figuring out where to put the sticks on the piece but rather how to space them. Playing with the different hierarchies of spacing the sticks was key to finding a good balance between too close together or too far apart for certain areas.
The third chip board study conducted was excavation. I would have to say this one was the most challenging craft wise due to having to excavate the piece up or down but overall I think they were my most successful studies.
The final chip board models had to include a combination of wall, skeleton, and excavation. My  craft from the beginning models to the finals greatly improved along with materiality especially in the skeleton portion using sturdy dowels opposed to the flimsy sticks.
